Reports from the US early on Thursday say confirmed cases of the covid-19 disease have jumped to 66,132 – representing an increase of more than 10,000 in one day.
At least 947 people with the virus have so far died in the country.
However, the State of New York, the epicentre of the crisis in the US, reported some good news on Wednesday, with figures “almost too good to be true”.
In China, no new cases were reported in Hubei province, where the virus emerged.
The death toll in the UK rose from 422 to 463.
Italy remains the epicentre of the crisis in Europe, with death rising to 7,503 – an increase of 683 in one day. Presently, Italy’s number of coronavirus infections stands at 7,438.
