The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Wednesday embarked on disinfecting the Lagos international airport terminal with the spread of the Coronavirus.
With the closure of the airport to flight Operations, the Authority saw this as an opportunity to commence the disinfection of the Terminal.
In a video uploaded on its portal, a FAAN official fully kitted with face masks and gloves is seen disinfecting the Immigration Portals, the primary and secondary screening areas, quarantine stand, Nigeria Custom Service among others.
Same exercise is expected to commence at other major international and domestic airports.
With the suspension of domestic flights by some of the airlines, the disinfection of the local terminals is soon to start.
Still on the Lagos Airport, the gate into cargo section of the airport was locked in the early hours of this morning to prevent anyone from going in.
Customs, immigration, staff of ground handling companies, bank staff and freight forwarders were locked out.
The affected Government agencies officials and others who were surprised at the development were seen loitering around the environment.
So far, apart from the Ethiopian airline freighter that landed yesterday with medical supplies donated by the Jack Ma foundation, there has not been any aircraft granted permission to land.
On his twitter handle on Monday, the Minister of Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika stated that only aircraft on distress, emergency and essentials at only allowed to land with the permission of the Federal Government.
On the domestic scene, three airlines will be shutting down their Operations midnight Friday and they have pledged to assist the Federal Government in the movement of medical supplies.
