Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has tasked the presidential committee on small Arms and Light Weapons to factor education in the resettlement of repentant bandits in the state.
Alhaji Aminu Masari stated this when Coordinator for the disarmament, Mr Dickson Orji who led other members of the committee on a courtesy call at government house, katsina.
The Governor observed that the building of skills to the ex-bandits would not be possible without education.
He therefore emphasized that providing adult education would make them to value life, and encourage the repentant herders to allow their children to be educated.
He observed that the only group that appreciates the value of education in the Forests were the herders with some form of Islamic knowledge.
Earlier, the programme Coordinator, Mr Dickson Orji said they were in katsina to revive a project that started earlier in 2017 and provide palliatives to those who were being disarmed
Mr Dickson Orji explained that the gesture of destruction of arms in the state goes a long way to ensuring the commitment of Katsina state government in the process of guaranteeing civilian disarmament, stressing that the issues of arms proliferation was the reason why conflicts continued unabated.
Mr Dickson Orji announced that the committee was developing strategies to ensure that the weapons coming into Nigeria will have the supply cut off.
