The Federal Ministry of Environment is to collaborate with the governors of Niger Delta region to curb illegal refineries in the region to enhance socio -economic development of the country.
The Minister of State for Environment Mrs. Sharon Ikpeazor who made this Known while featuring on Radio Nigeria good governance, accountability and audience participatory programme “Have Your Say” expressed government’s readiness to address the nation’s environment and sustainability challenges,
She stressed that the Federal Ministry of Environment is saddled with the statutory responsibility of formulating polices to regulate the environment sector as well as to conserve and preserve the nation’s natural resources.
The Minister urged Nigerians to ensure clean environment and described dirty environment as a threat to human health.
Contributing to the programme, Okoro John from Enugu State expressed concern over residents disregard for proper waste disposal system and called on relevant authorities to strictly monitor environmental sanitation exercise in the country.
