Kogi State Government says it is set to recruit more fire officers for quick response to fire outbreaks and other disasters in the state.
Governor Yahaya Bello represented by his deputy Mr Edward Onoja stated this on Thursday at the inauguration of modern fire fighting equipment and a new office in Lokoja.
Mr Onoja pledged to support the Federal Fire Service to achieve its mandate and believed that the equipment would reduce incidents of fire disaster in the state.
He explained that the outdated equipment are being replaced with modern fire fighting equipment at the Lokoja office and personnel had been deployed to boost the state’s capacity in fire management.
The Governor appreciated the Federal government and the fire service for the facility saying it would go a long way in reducing fire incidents and casualties.
The Controller General of the Service, Dr Liman Ibrahim said the personnel deployed to the state were to complement the state fire men to combat fire incidents using the latest fire fighting technology.
Dr Liman called for more collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, noting that other state commands would benefit from the ongoing upgrade of fire facilities across the the country.
“We are now going round state commands and Kogi is the first State Command that we have delivered these trucks to and Ilesa. In the next three weeks the minister of Interior is going to inaugurate ten trucks that have arrived Lagos and we are moving to Porthacourt, Ibadan, Anambra and also to Kaduna State, the CG said”.
The CG said that the service would embark on an aggressive public enlightenment to reduce the impact of fire on lives and property.
