New fire Institute trains first set of officers

The Federal Fire Service, FFS, in collaboration with Katsina State Fire Service has begun a two-week training exercise for Seventy Five officers at the just commissioned Training School in Katsina State.

The officers to be trained were drawn from the seven states that make up the Northwest Zonal Office of the FFS.

The officers will take courses on incidence command system and flood disaster Management to upgrade their response skill to emerging challenges.

The Controller General, of the Federal Fire Service Dr Liman Ibrahim, said the endeavour was in accordance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to reposition the fire service in all states of the federation for better service delivery.

“Incidence command courses for fire fighting and flood disaster management for flood, these are the major disasters we are having as a challenge to Firefighters so by the time we expose them to International best practices they would be able to handle this situation very efficiently, the CG said”.

The Katsina state Governor, Alhaji Bello Masari, represented by the state commissioner of Information, Culture and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkarim Yahaya who appreciated the effort of the FFS for the establishment of the training school in the state, said it would play a key role in building the capacity of firefighters in the state to meet up with current realities.

Addressing journalists, Senator representing Katsina North, Ahmad Babba Kaita who was presented with an award of honorary fireman for his contribution to the development of fire service, said the training school and other critical infrastructure would enhance the social and economic well being of people in the state.

Meanwhile the district head of Kankia, Alhaji Musa Hassan Sada commended stakeholders for locating the training facility in Kankia and assured the management of the school that the community would give them full support to ensure the school achieved its objectives.
