Resident Doctors protest inadequate manpower in Bauchi

Association of Resident Doctors, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH Bauchi has staged a peaceful rally to protest inadequate manpower in the hospital.

Members of the association who went round the hospital premises called on the federal government, the federal Ministry of Health and all stakeholders in the health sector to address shortage of human resource in the hospital.

The Doctors came out in their numbers carrying placards with inscriptions such as: FG/ATBUTH Increase Manpower, ARDs Say No to Daily Call, Minister of Health Come to Our Rescue, More Employment for Resident Doctors, Why Is Bauchi Different?, ATBUTH is The Headquarters of Locum Doctors, FG Please Employ More Doctors among others.

The President of the association Dr. Sani Kabir told Radio Nigeria that the peaceful protest was necessary in view of the difficult conditions the Resident Doctors operate in the hospital.

According to him the One Doctor-thirty patients ratio was not realistic, as a single doctor in the hospital was consulting about 100 patients per day, a situation he described as unfortunate.

The ATBUTH President of the Association urged all members to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities as the association was doing all within its capacity to address their plight.

The protest conducted under a peaceful atmosphere was devoid of solidarity songs or any form of rancour.
