Stakeholders on population and Housing Census says the solution to Nigeria insecurity and infrastructure problems is conducting a National Census.
They made the position at the opening ceremony of a 5-day retreat in UYO, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.
The Governor of the State, Emmanuel Udom who declared the event open explained that until the appropriate data is generated via a national census, Nigeria might not be able to find lasting solution to its numerous problems.
The Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo urged the National Population Commission to prepare towards conducting a rancour-free and widely accepted census in the country.
The Chairman of the commission Mr Abimbola Salu- Huddeen in her welcome address called on the National Assembly to enact laws that would make conducting census mandatory every ten years.
Mrs Salu- Huddeen said the commission was working round the clock in preparation for the exercise as the proclamation from the president was being awaited.
The Senate Committee Chairman on population and National Identity, Alhaji Saidu Abari promised to work with the commission to ensure that the nation’s actual population is generated.
