NSCDC arrest Proprietor, others for alleged fraud

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has arrested a proprietor of a private Coaching Centre in Ado Ekiti for alleged fraud.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the proprietor was arrested for charging above four thousand seven hundred naira as JAMB registration for 2020 UTME.

The suspect Mr. Femi Apata was arrested along with three other suspects while trying to pay for the UTME registrations in his office with a receipt showing the payment of seven thousand for the coaching fee and seven thousand five hundred for the JAMB registrations.

The arrest was in connection with memorandum of understanding reached with JAMB to stop cyber cafe owners as well as CBT Centres from charging above approved cost for the examination.

Speaking on the arrest, the State Commandant of NSCDC Mr. Solomon Iyamu, who had earlier cautioned CBT Centres and Cafe Owners to desist from charging applicants and parents more than the required cost approved by the examination body said the culprits would face the full wrath of the law.

Mr. Solomon Iyamu also used the opportunity to appeal to Cafe Owners and CBT Centres in the state to follow strictly all rules guiding UTME as well the registration processes..

The suspect Mr. Femi Apata explained that the extra cost placed on the registrations were meant to cater for the coaching classes and other charges that were not mentioned in his statement.
