A Federal Capital Territory High Court has sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for culpable homicide.
Maryam Sanda stabbed her husband, Bilyamin Mohammed Bello to death in 2017 in their home in Abuja.
The presiding Judge, Justice Halilu Yusuf said all the evidence before the court found her guilty.
After her conviction by the judge, Sanda broke down in tears and wept uncontrollably.
Her cry and that of the members of her family in the courtroom to attract sympathizers.
she was whisked away by officials of the Nigerian correctional service from the court accompanied by security operatives amid wailing friends and family members of Sanda.
According to the charge sheet, the accused was said to have stabbed her husband with broken bottles.
Sanda who was initially remanded in custody has repeatedly pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The judge ordered that she should be remanded in Suleja prison till she exhausts her right of appeal.
