The chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Imo state Chief Charles Ezekwem has resigned his position.
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party and made available to newsmen in Owerri, the former chairman said he has also ceased to be a member of the PDP.
He stated that he had duly communicated his ward chairman in Okigwe local government area of the state of his decision to quit the party.
Chief Ezekwem said his decision was informed by the prevailing circumstances within the party regarding his standing as Chairman of the Board and due consultation by his family and supporters.
He expressed regrets over the inconveniences the party faced but thanked members of the party for giving him the opportunity to serve.
The former chairman was however silent on whether he would defect to another political party.
Until his resignation, Chief Ezekwem was also the Board Chairman of the state owned Heartland Football club Owerri.
