The Federal Government and Governors of the South West States have reached an agreement that the legal framework should be put in place on the establishment of the regional security outfit, Amotekun.
Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu brief journalists after a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Amotekun at the State House, Abuja.
According to the Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Bashir Ahmaad noted that the meeting was at the instance of the governors who had asked to see President Muhammadu Buhari over the controversy surrounding the Amotekun initiative.
Bashir Ahmaad on his twitter handle explained that due to the president’s foreign engagement asked the vice president to host the meeting.
He said that the meeting was very fruitful and a unanimous resolution was made on the way forward.
According to him, the meeting agreed that the structure of Amotekun should also align with the community policing strategy of the federal government.
He added that the necessary legal instrument would be put in place by each of the initiatives and address all issues concerning the regulation of the security structure.
