Prosecutors in Ukraine have asked the Iranian government to hand Kiev the black boxes of the UIA plane that crashed in Tehran on January 8.
Last Saturday, the Iranian authorities revised their earlier version of events and admitted that their military shot down the Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to the Ukraine International Airlines (UIA).
Tehran had earlier said it was not prepared to release the ill-fated plane’s data and flight recorders to Kiev, the US or any other foreign government.
But on Wednesday, Ukraine’s prosecutors office said it had, in conjunction with the Ukrainian security services, forwarded to Iran a request for the black boxes .
According to a senior Ukrainian security official, the Iranians are expected to send a senior investigator to Kiev soon to determine whether a Ukrainian laboratory would be suitable to work on the black boxes.
