Ondo NAWOJ begins advocacy campaign for school girls

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Ondo State Chapter has called on government, political office holders and philanthropist to make free sanitary pads available for secondary school girls especially in the rural areas.

The Chairperson Mrs Doris Olumoko who made the call in Akure while speaking with Radio Nigeria on the achievement of the association last year said if condoms could be free there was the need to also make sanitary pad free for girls.

Mrs Olumoko said the plight of most girls were worrisome because they used pieces of clothes and tissue papers for their cycles which according to medical expert could expose them to infections.

The chairperson noted that it was high time attention was given to the plights of the girls.

Speaking on the activities of the association in the New Year, Mrs Olumoko said improved standard of living for the vulnerable was the target of the association.

Advocacy, sponsorship of indigent children, distribution of sanitary pads to poor girls in the rural areas will also be embarked upon by the association, she said.

She called for quick dispensation of justice to sexual abuse offenders in the state to serve as deterrence to others.

Other women group leaders in Ondo State also lent their voices to zero tolerance to abuses against women, children and the vulnerable.
