Adamawa state Primary Health Care Authority says, the intervention by the European Union (EU) through the United Nation Children Fund UNICEF, in the health sector has reduced maternal and newborn deaths in the State.
The Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Authority, Mr Titus Tenense stated in an interview with newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
Mr Tenense, explains that before in the state, the rate of maternal and newborn mortality was very high but with the intervention of EU/UNICEF, it has reduced.
He said the intervention included the rehabilitation and provision of equipment at maternity wards across the state.
Mr. Tenense said, women now attend antenatal and take delivery at the nearest facilities as delivery kits are being provided free.
He thanked EU/UNICEF for its support and appealed for the sustenance of the intervention to the state.
