UNILAG probes sex-for-grades lecturers

Authorities in the University of Lagos have set up a panel to look into the sex-for-mark scandal currently rocking the 57-year-old institution.

The panel will be headed by Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa of public law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, and the dean of the faculty.

A statement by Mrs Taiwo Oloyede, the Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit, says the panel would probe into allegations of sexual harassment against Dr Boniface Igbeneghu of the Department of European Languages and Integrated Studies, and Dr Samuel Oladipo of the Department of Economics.

The statement adds that Oladipo, who was featured in a BBC documentary, Sex-For-grade, had earlier been suspended with immediate effect and barred from the university academic areas until the conclusion of the panel’s assignment.

“Students and members of staff who have relevant information are encouraged to come forward.

The university assured that the process would be transparent and appropriate sanctions would be meted out to anyone found culpable.
