About one hundred youths volunteers in Maiduguri have embarked on massive tree planting in communities devastated by activities of insurgence.
Youths of Bulabulin Ngaranam, a settlement in the outskirts of Maiduguri which had been badly affected by the crisis, volunteered to plant and nurture at least a tree to replenish their environment.
The program jointly organised by African Climate Change Research Cente ACCREC and Borno Coalition for Democracy and Progress BOCODEP was initiated to promote peaceful and sustainable environment.
Regional Director of ACCREC, Dr Usman Busuguma urged the youths to protect the environment from harmful human activities like deforestation and desert encroachment.
He observed that combating climate change and peaceful coexistence was critical to the development of the state.
Administrative officer of BOCODEP, Mohammed Wuyo urged the community to take ownership of the program.
One of the village Head, Bulama Bukar promised to nurture and protect the trees planted and mobilize other members to embark on tree planting exercise.
