Gunmen abduct Bayelsa commissioner’s father

Suspected armed kidnappers have abducted the Octogenarian father of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Doodei Week, in his country home at Ayama-Ijaw in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

According to an eyewitness account, the 84 year old King Agbabou Week, who is the Ebenanaowei of Tarakiri Clan in Southern Ijaw was kidnapped about 11:20 pm Wednesday night by seven AK47 wielding masked men.

Reports say the kidnappers searched the house of the King, collected a television set, jewellery and other valuables before dragging him on the ground to the waterside and fled the community.

In an interview, the paramount ruler of Ayama-Ijaw Community, Chief Amen Sariki, confirmed the incident, saying the gunmen stayed in the community for about an hour searching for his house.

He stated that though he tried to reach the Joint Military Task Force and the Nigerian Police but could not get any response.

Contacted, the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, saying details of the incident were still sketchy but however promised to give full details later.
