10 entrepreneurs win FGs N10m grant

Ten entrepreneurs have won a federal government N10million grant to grow their businesses.

Presenting cheques to the winners at a National Youth Empowerment Summit, as part of activities to mark the 59th Independence anniversary in Abuja, Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo said the grant would create job opportunities and develop skills, as well as assist the beneficiaries to expand their businesses.

VP Osinbajo was represented by the minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo at the event.

The youths were given the opportunity to showcase their talents and works in new media, ICT, design and architecture, arts, shoe making, make-up, arts and dance.

The Vice President said the federal government would continue to support young people who come up with laudable initiatives.

The secretary to the government of the federation, Mr Boss Mustapha said the programme was designed to empower young entrepreneurs, who in turn, would empower others through an expansion of their businesses.

“10 amongst those of you that submitted business proposals will go home with N1Million each, and 12 months personal mentorship programme courtesy of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Another 10 will win 12 months mentorship programme only (a total of 24 mentorships).

In the area of skills acquisition, Mr. Mustapha said the best 8 in skill sets will win the sum of N200, 000 each courtesy of the Federal Government, to help kick start their businesses. We can assure you that the selection process will be absolutely transparent”, he said.

A Nigerian actor and a member of panel of judges at the event, Richard Mofe-Damijo, urged the youths to be dedicated to their professions and do t to the best of their ability.

The winners are Ifedichukwu Chibueze, Demi Damian, Odaro Igbako, Iyamu Itohan, Babalola Oluwafemi.

Others are Zidyep Katung, Aloasim Abba, Babalola Falolu, Basi Ifeanyichukwu and a dance group, Dream Academy.

Apart from the 10 lucky winners who got one million each, all those who showcased their products received consolation cash prizes of N50,000 each.
