The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN says it has supported over sixty thousand farmers in Borno state under the Anchor Borrowers Programme of the federal government from 2016 to 2019.
Head of Development Finance Office DFO, CBN Maiduguri branch Alhaji Mahmood Nyako made this known to newsmen while reviewing the programme in Maiduguri.
Mr Nyako observed that despite the insurgency many private and prime anchors have benefited from different Programmes of the bank.
According to him, the Programme has recorded remarkable success in the state as it was able to stabilise prices of food items and provides job opportunities to hundreds of jobless youths including the displaced in different parts of the state.
Alhaji Mahmood Nyako said the central bank was targeting to reach about seventy thousand farmers in the state this year under the Ancho Borrowers, Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme, Agribusiness Small and medium enterprise investment scheme and Agriculture Credit Guarantee scheme.
The programmes are aimed at increasing agricultural output and ensure food sufficiency in Borno state.
