African countries have been urged to utilize mineral resources to fast track socio-economic development.
The president, Organization of African Geological Surveys, Dr Abdulrazak Garba, made the call at the 12th Annual General Meeting of the Organization in Abuja.
The President who is also the Director-General, Nigeria Geological Survey Agency said mineral resources in Africa were under-utilized.
The European Geological Survey President, Represented by Mr Slavko Solar said the cooperation would address cross border issues and information sharing, while Head, Namibia Geological Survey Agency, Gloria Simubali said by pulling their resources together, the African continent would move forward.
The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Olamilekan Adegite, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Abdulkadir Muazu urged the participants to come up with workable solutions for the growth of the continent.
About twenty participants across the continent are attending the meeting.
The meeting seeks to foster and sustain Geoscience programs in Africa, to address socio-economic challenges through capacity building and technology.
