Nigerians have been urged to always accord respect to the National Flag, Coat of Arms and other national symbols as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Imo state Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr. Vitus Ekeocha made the call while speaking on this year’s National Ordinance Day in Owerri.
Mr. Ekeocha described the Nigerian passport and currencies as some of the vital documents that must be handled with respect since they depict the corporate identity of the nation.
He however frowned at the poor attitude of some Nigerians who deface the naira or fly torn national flags, noting that disrespect to national symbols were offences punishable under the law.
The NOA Director appealed to those who were yet to register for the National Identity card to do so without delay.
Mr. Ekeocha appealed to the media to complement the efforts of NOA in reawakening the consciousness of Nigerians on the significance of national symbols and the need to adore them.
