Thirty seven million Nigerians have been captured in the national identity management commissions data base and issued a National identity number.
The secretary to the government of the Federation Mr Boss Mustapha made this known in a message to the First national identity day.
The national identity day was initiated at the forth annuls meeting of the ID4Africa movement held last year in Abuja.
The secretary to the government of the federation, said with proper identification the issue of ghost workers would be eradicated.
The minister of science and technology Mr. Muhammad Abdullahi advised the commission to enlarge the registration of more Nigerians in the rural area.
The director General of NIMC Mr. Aliyu Aziz said efforts were on to start the issuance of national identity number to every child at birth.
With the observance of the day, Nigeria has become the first country to officially celebrate the international identity day.
