The Abuja Environmental Protection Board AEPB in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Abuja has commenced a scheme for the evacuation of refuse in the city.
Performing the exercise in Sabon Lugbe a suburb of the FCT the Director Abuja Environmental Protection Board Alhaji Baba Lawal emphasized that a clean environment would lead to a healthy society.
” When our attention is drawn, we intervene, we also collaborate with the area councils to remove waste before it poses any hadzard to the community” he noted.
Alhaji Lawal called on everyone to support the Board’s effort to achieve a cleaner Federal Capital City.
The Rotary Club of Abuja Territory, represented by Mr Salihu Kindo said sanitation and water were some of the major focus of Rotary International, and the club adopted Sabon Lugbe community in line with its humanitarian goals.
“In furtherance of achieving one of our thematic areas which is water and sanitation we decided to intervene in the evacuation of these wastes which also have a negative multiplier effect in the area of health, because if this is not cleaned you know what it means to the community,’ he said.
The representative of the chief of Sabon Lugbe, Prince Aminu Ndakuzo who appreciated the efforts of Abuja Rotary club and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board pledged to work with relevant bodies to ensure proper refuse disposal in the community.
