The North East Development Commission NEDC has embarked on an assessment tour to internally displaced person camps in Maiduguri and Monguno in Borno state.
Managing Director of the Commission Alhaji Mohammed Alkali said the purpose of the visit is to have first-hand information on the condition of the IDPs and deploy measures to ameliorate their challenges.
The MD observed that the major concern of IDPs in the camps visited is inadequate food to cater for their needs.
Alhaji Mohammed Alkali explained that at the end of the assessment the commission will come up with a comprehensive strategy that will address the plight of displaced people.
Chairman Borno State Emergency Management Agency SEMA Hajiya Yabawa Kolo expressed confidence that the commission will complement the effort of the agency in addressing the immediate humanitarian needs of the IDPs.
Hajiya Yabawa called on the Commission to also focus its activities on returnees who have been resettled in relatively safe areas.
Camps visited by the Managing Director and other principal officers of NEDC include Custom House, Farm Centre, Muna and Stadium IDP camps.
