Bridge collapses in Bayelsa

Residents and commuters in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have appealed to the relevant authorities to come to their rescue following the collapse of the Elebele Bridge which serves as a link between the community and other communities.

The bridge collapsed while a trailer was passing on it to deliver building materials to one of the neighbouring villages in the area.

In an interview with newsmen after the incident, President, Obhan Emeyal Clan, Comrade Okala Precious described the incident as unfortunate, calling on the government and oil companies operating in the community to take urgent measures to fix the bridge.

Also, some locals of the area, Mr. Otutu Young and Mr. Thankgod Odo explained that the sad situation has made travelling difficult as it was the only bridge that connects Yenagoa and Elebele, pointing out that the only other means is to go through Emeyal by local boat.

Another native, Mr. Gabriel Claudius noted that the bridge which was constructed by Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC has been in a deplorable state for a long time.

The truck driver and his conductor are currently receiving treatment in an unknown hospital.
