NSCDC volunteers protest in Yola

The volunteers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Yola, Adamawa State have staged a street protest demanding to be regularize as bonifide staff of the corps.

Speaking to newsmen, the spokesperson of the Protestants, Livingston Mohammed, said over 630 people were captured as volunteers in 2008 but up to date were not regularised.

“After screening committee has been screening us, time to time to ensure all the volunteers benefit the organisation, we still await for revitalization”.

He said, in respect of the screening and verification of volunteers, they were also trained on arms drill, dismounting and assembling of rifle, 5-inch drill and double sentra drill and silent drill.

The spokesperson said all assignment been given to them to assist law enforcement agencies on patrol and rescuing lives and property which they comply up to the time that they served them with last screening form as bonifide staff of the corps but deprive them of appointment letters.

Responding, Adamawa State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Alhaji Nurudeen Abdullahi, said as far as they are concern, there is no volunteers of the corps in Adamawa State.

“Recruitment exercise of the corps is going on and any body that wants to apply should apply”.

The Act that established the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps 2003, refer to as the corps which shall consists of such members of volunteers and regular members as may from time to time be required under the provision of this act.
