The stage seems set for the primaries of the 2 major political parties in Bayelsa State, scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday).
Delegates of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP and the main opposition All Progressives Congress, APC will be electing a candidate to fly the flag of the PDP and the APC in the November 16 Governorship election in the State.
A total of 1306 delegates will take part in the elective primary of the PDP to choose one among the 21 cleared aspirants vying for the ticket.
A breakdown indicates that Southern Ijaw Local Government Area has the highest delegates with 199 while Brass has the least with 130 in the primary that will use the indirect method to choose the standard bearer of the PDP.
That of the APC which has been rescheduled twice from last Thursday to Saturday and then Tuesday and Wednesday this week, will adopt the direct primary format.
7 aspirants are jostling to emerge as candidate of the APC in the State.
Ahead of the primaries, security has been tightened in most parts of Yenagoa and the secretariat of the 2 major parties in the Bayelsa State capital.
The Aspirants were seen consulting with delegates and stakeholders in a last gasp effort to secure the tickets ahead of the Governorship election.
