Authorities in Lagos have arrested 123 men en route the state from Jigawa.
A truck conveying the 123 passengers, including 48 motorcycles was intercepted by the State Environment Sanitation and Special Offenses Taskforce.
The truck was seized following a tip-off by members of the public who expressed concern about the character of the passengers, Chairman of the taskforce, Yinka Egbeyemi, said.
Many states including Lagos have banned ‘okada’ on major roads in their states due to high rates of accidents and use of motorcycles for crime.
One of the detainees, Shuaibu Haruna, said he left Jigawa State to work in Lagos with his motorcycle. He claimed to have a wife and a son but said he needed to double his income to cater for his family.
