The National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the election of Alhaji Tanko Almakura of the All Progressives Congress as senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District of Nasarawa State.
Chairman of the tribunal, Justice David Ugoh , in a unanimous judgment in Lafia said the petitioner, Senator Suleiman Adokwe of the Peoples Democratic Party failed to prove his case beyond any reasonable doubt.
Justice David Ugoh stated that the petition was dismissed due to lack of merit and failure to present substantial evidence to prove that the February 2019 Senatorial election in Nasarawa South Senatorial District did not comply with the electoral act.
Counsel to the petitioner Israel Usman expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling of the tribunal and said they would appeal the judgment.
Counsel to the respondent Senator Tanko Almakura and the All Progressives Congress APC, Mutalib Adekilekun said he was happy with the decision of the tribunal.
