The Federal Government has promised to render more supports for investors and other key players in the nation’s sugar industry.
This decision was aimed towards achieving sufficient industrial and domestic uses of the commodity.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo made the promise in Abuja , while taking briefings from management of the National Sugar Development Council, NSDC.
He told the NSDC led by its Executive Secretary, Dr Latif Busari of the desire of the current administration to work with all stakeholders in the industry to address all its challenges.
He said that the Buhari administration had done a lot in the area of agriculture and non-oil sectors, stressing that sugar sufficiency would further support such initiatives.
Earlier, Dr Busari in his presentation had enumerated some achievements of the current administration in the industry, among which he said included job creation and industrialization.
He said that part of the plan was to create 114,000 jobs and produce 1.7 million tonnes of sugar annually.
