In Benue state, tension has mounted in Katsina-Ala Township and its environs following the resurgence of the protracted crisis between the people of Ikyurav and Shitile which claimed twelve lives in the early hours of Saturday.
A source told Radio Nigeria that hundreds of sympathizers were attending a wake at Tyogbenda Udende during which gunmen appeared and started shooting randomly claiming the lives of the victims on the spot while many others fled with wounds.
The gunmen were also said to have proceeded to a community near Divine Love Secondary School Katsina-Ala where they also shot sporadically, killing Ten persons after which they left unhindered.
The development created fear in the people, leaving many to scamper for safety in the bush while others hurriedly relocated to neighbouring places such as Gboko and Adikpo to seek refuge.
The Katsina-Ala township was said to have gone to bed as early as 7 Am, as all commercial and social activities were grounded to a halt with people off the streets.
It was gathered that the security personnel on the ground were helpless as they could not intercept the attackers.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sewuese Anene confirmed the killing of nine persons in the attacks saying full investigation has commenced and enjoined the people to be calm.
