Two suspected internet fraudsters using the names of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo and that of the First Lady Aisa Buhari to defraud unsuspecting members of the public on Facebook and Instagram accounts have been apprehended by the Department of State Security Service in Edo State.
The suspects were paraded by the Deputy Director, Security and Enforcement, Mr. Galadima Byange at the Edo State Headquarters of the service in Benin City.
According to the Mr Galadima, the suspects identified as Kelvin Ogashi, 18, and Amos Asuelimen, 30, were picked up at different locations of the state noting that other accomplices were at large
The suspects who confessed to the crime, said they created fake Instagram account in May 2019 with a message that the First Lady was empowering Nigerian Youths with cash to start up their businesses and that interested persons were required to register with money.
The suspects, Amos Ehis Asulieman, an undergraduate student of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma said he engaged on the illicit business to raise money for this projects, while Kelvin Godwin Ogashi said he needed money to invest in his fashion business.
While advising the youths to stay away from criminal acts, the DSS Director assured members of the public of the agency’s commitment to ensure the safety of life and property of law abiding citizens.
He called on members of the public to always report any suspicious criminal activities to security agencies nothing that the suspects would be arraign in court soon.
