WAEC to adopt new technologies for better operations

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, is collaborating with its counterparts across the globe on ways to adopt new technologies that will better its operations in West Africa.

The Head of National Office of WAEC in Nigeria, Mr.Olu Adenipekun announced in Lagos.

He said that looking at the leading role WAEC plays in the conduct of examinations in West Africa, there was the need for the Council to adopt up to date knowledge in the use of modern technologies to continue to conduct credible and globally acceptable examinations.

The WAEC boss in Nigeria said that plans were underway for the Council to host examining and assessment bodies across Africa to a conference in Nigeria, under the umbrella of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa.

Mr Adenipekun said that the forum would enable WAEC and other examining bodies to deliberate on ways by which innovations in technology could be used in the conduct of examinations.

Speaking on the improved performance of students at the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, Mr Adenipekun adduced the students’ better performance in the examination.

He said the additional number of subjects introduced into the Senior Secondary School Curriculum, now afforded the students the opportunity to choose new subjects that were of interest to them.

Mr Adenipekun explained that with the introduction of the new subjects, students now have more than seventy subjects they could choose, according to their area of interests unlike in the past, when students had limited subjects to choose from.

He however, advised parents to always give attention to the upbringing of their children including their educational pursuit.
