A woman has been arraigned and charged with assault for allegedly abusing an underage girl under her care.
The suspect, Mrs Charity Effiong, was said to have put pepper in the vagina of the minor as punishment for stealing.
The police spokesman in Anambra state, Mr Haruna Muhammed said the command would continue to protect the constitutional rights of children and told parents and guardians that exposing a child to moral danger was an offence.
Mr Muhammed said torture and molestation of children was a violation of their rights.
A good Samaritan last week found the 12 years old Precious Nwali wandering about at 10:30 PM after her guardian, Mrs Effiong allegedly put pepper into vagina claiming she stole N26,000.
Radio Nigeria followed the matter up which led to security agents apprehending the accused and charging her with assault.
Young Miss Nwali has been handed over to her biological parents.
