South African former football star Marc Batchelor has been shot dead near his home in Johannesburg.
Batchelor, who played for South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, was attacked by two men on a motorbike.
“He was about to drive into his premises (when) the suspects shot several times at him,” a police spokesman Colonel Lungelo Dlamini told South African Broadcasting Corporation.
Dlamini added that the footballer died inside the car as the assailants drove away without taking anything.
Meanwhile, the police have said the attackers are yet to be identified. They say they are investigating the motive for the killing.
eNCA news reported a police source as saying Batchelor was travelling with a gardener, who was unharmed.
