The standards organisation of Nigeria has commenced a nationwide clamp down of substandard Aluminium and galvanized roofing sheets.
The Director General of the organisation, Mr Osita Aboloma made this known in Lagos during an enforcement exercise.
Represented by the Director inspectorate and compliance department, Dr. Obiora Manafa, Mr Aboloma explained that a task force against substandard product has been constituted to ensure total compliance.
He explained that there was a minimum standard for all types of roofing sheets approved by the standards organisation of Nigeria to be used in the country.
He said the minimum thickness required roofing sheet is 0.4 according to the NIS 488 but that the confiscated ones were between 0.2 and 0.25. .
The SON Director General urged Nigerians especially importers of Aluminum and galvanized roofing sheets and local manufacturers to ensure their products conform with the approved standard.
Substandard roofing sheets worth forty million naira were confiscated by the agency.
The SON had last week during a raid in UYO, seized substandard roofing sheet worth over two bundles million naira.
