The National Assembly was thrown into confusion due to attempted invasion of the premises by Elzazakay protesters while plenary sessions were ongoing in both legislative chambers.
According to reports, the protesters forced their way into the premises and started shooting sporadically, shattering glass windows and setting a car ablaze.
A police officer was shot in the process while several others were injured.
The injured police officers are currently receiving treatment at the National Assembly Clinic.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan visited the injured policeman currently at NASS clinic.
However, the House of Representatives plenary abruptly ended following this development.
Presiding officer, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila had informed the House that due to the security threat, an urgent executive meeting with management of national assembly will be held. To this regard, an adjournment for the plenary was made.
The matters in the order paper of the day were yet to be treated before the abrupt end of the House plenary.
One person was arrested on the scene by the National Assembly Security and he is been interrogated as at the time of filing this report.
