Delta and Edo State governments have called on the Assistant Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in the two states to come up with a plan to strengthen security operations in the states following incessant communal clashes and criminalities.
This was part of the decisions reached at a meeting held behind closed door between Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and his Edo State counterpart, Mr Godwin Obaseki Government House, Asaba to brainstorm on how to deepen economic ties and improve on the security situation in the two states.
Addressing newsmen, Governor Obaseki said the meeting demanded the inauguration of the Niger Delta Development Commission,( NDDC) advisory committee of Governors and also, to work with other colleagues to improve governance in the Commission.
He said in view of the resources the Commission receives, there was need for improvement in project conception, siting and execution , stressing that nothing stops the Commission from using 50 per cent of its resources to solve the energy problem of the region.
Delta State Governor, Doctor Okowa said it was a meeting held to leverage on the strong ties between Edo and Delta States as members of the defunct Bendel State to better the lots of the people.
