Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has distributed over 1,000 take away of food and drinks to prison inmates in Kaduna prison to celebrate Sallah.
The Chairman of the Council in Kaduna state, Sheikh Mohammed Tehimee Sulaiman stated this to newsmen after distributing the food.
He said the purpose was for them to visit the inmates and distribute food for both Muslims and Christians to enjoy Edel fitir.
Sheihk Mohammed Suleiman said the council brought 1,240 packages of food to the inmates irrespective of their religion or tribe.
He noted that, the gesture would be continued by the Council in conjunction with Ummul Bin khattab Islamic Centre to help the needy.
The Chairman urged the inmates to endeavour to change their habitsin order to become productive and useful members of the society when they come out from the prison.
He lamented that, over eighty percent of the inmates are youths, hence the need for parents to redouble effort towards inculcating good moral to their children.
Sheihk Mohammed further stated that, the capacity of Kaduna prison is to be for 700 people but so far it has 1,240 inmates.
According to him, the most unfortunate thing was that, those that were convicted were less than 300 while those awaiting trial were over 900, stressing that the judiciary must speed up in discharging its duty.
