Barely few hours to Eid-el ftr, markets in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital are witnessing influx of people to make last minute transactions before the celebration.
There are three major markets in Lafia metropolis which are the Lafia Modern Market along Makurdi road, Lafia Neighborhood Market, former Lafia Old Market located along Emir’s of Lafia Palace road and tomatoes Market along Shingye road.
A visit to the markets indicates that the purchasing power had increased especially food items such as tomatoes, pepper, onions and meat among others.
Some of the buyers who spoke to Radio Nigeria complained of increased in the prices of food items such as tomatoes ,pepper and onions and meat.
Mr Yahuza Gwaska expressed surprised over the sudden increase in the prices of food items.
A tomato seller, Umar Yahaya said a basket of tomato that was sold between eight and ten thousand is now sold for between seventeen and twenty thousand naira.
Umar Yahaya attributed the price hike of the commodities to high cost of transportation.
