Experts meet on the importance of calibration in production

A one day workshop on sensitization on issues relating to metrology services has been organised by the North-West zone of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria SON in Katsina state.

Officials highlighted that the aim of the workshop is to create more awareness on the importance of calibration in production factories and market places.

The Director General of the Standard Organisation Nigeria, represented by the North-West zone Regional Coordinator Ahmad Adamu Metrology Services is of importance to the standard and safety of lives and property in Nigeria.

He said that the sensitization on metrology services is another way of contribution towards the socioeconomic development of the Country.

Mr Adamu stated that majority of Nigerians are ignorant of metrology, hence the need to intensify Sensitization Campaigns in production factories and market places for the adherence of quality standards

While declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner of Commerce represented by the Director Special Projects in the Katsina state Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mannir Ibrahim Talba stated that recently the Katsina state Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism launched a programme that would see to the unification of measuring of grains in markets across the state.

A Resource Person at the workshop, Engineer Omoniyi Olalekan said that on many occasions consumers are being short changed due to irregular calibration of weighing or measuring machines or instruments.

Some of the participants also emphasized on the issue of regular calibration pre-paid meters for electricity consumers who are on many occasions complaining of being short changed by the distribution companies.

This according to the Participants would enhance quantity control, quality assurance and Conformity with the relevant standards and provisions of the law.

One of the participants Kabir Ali Masanawa expressed delight for being part of the workshop, and called on the Standard Organisation of Nigeria to establish a Calibration centre in Katsina state.
