Mikel to captain Nigeria to AFCON

Mikel Obi has entered record books as the first player to captain Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations without featuring in the qualifying series after been given an invitation by Gernot Rohr.

According to the Nigerian Football Federation on Tuesday, Coach Gernot Rohr has listed a 25-man squad to prepare for the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt with 6 other players on standby.

Mikel Obi who last played for Nigeria in the game against Argentina on June 26 at the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia will lead the team to confront Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar in Group B of the continental cup taking place in four Egyptian cities from the21st June -19th July.
