The Minister of Interior, Retired General Abdulrahman Danbazau has called for more tactical training of Fire fighters in the Country.
The Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Georgina Ehuriah made the call at a workshop organized by the the Federal Fire Service in collaboration with a private firm in Abuja.
The Minister who blamed most building collapse on the use of substandard materials called on the standard organisation of Nigeria, SON and other professional bodies to rise up to their responsibilities.
“Firemen are known globally to be amongst the first to respond in times of disaster, officers and men of the fire service should be constantly trained to be at their best” The minister stated.
The Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Dr Liman Alhaji called on his officers to observe safety standards when carrying out rescue operations.
He enjoined building contractors to always maintain Standards in their activities..
The Convener of the workshop, Mrs Christie George explained that the training would help the officers to understand their roles during rescue operations.
