The Cross River Resident Electoral Commissioner,REC, Dr Frankland Briyai on Tuesday has been honored with the ‘‘Pan African Prize for Excellence Award’’ by the African Students’ Union Parliament in recognition of his outstanding leadership performance.
The Speaker of the parliament, Mr Solomon Mensah while Presenting the award to the REC in Calabar, acknowledged his leadership style which he described as worthy of emulation by African students.
Mr Mensah of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Ghana, who is also the 48th Speaker of the Parliament, made reference to the exemplary performance of the REC during the 2019 general elections of which he stood out ahead of others.
He said the union had organised sensitization and awareness forum for students across universities in Africa as part of its on-campus activities, urging students to shun cultism and drug abuse.
Responding, the Resident electoral commissioner expressed appreciation to the union for recognizing him and said the award would encourage him to do more in the service to the Nigeria and humanity.
Mr Frankland said he was firm in his coordination during the 2019 election by insisting that the right thing must be done despite external pressures and pledged to work harder in carrying out his duties to the nation.
