Sultan declares Monday beginning of Ramadan

The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared tomorrow Monday 6th of May as the first day of the month of Ramadan fourteen hundred and forty after Hijra which is equivalent to the sixth of May two thousand and nineteen.

Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar announced this in a broadcast to Muslims shortly after receiving reports of sighting the new moon of Ramadan at his palace in Sokoto.

The Sultan further stressed that the moon was sighted in many towns across the country by Muslim leaders and organizations, and various moon sighting committees have authenticated the reports.

He, therefore, directed the Muslims to commence fasting of the month of Ramadan from tomorrow Monday and urged them to use the Holy Month to pray for peace and development of the country.

The Sultan admonished Muslims to pray for the country’s leaders so as to lead the country well and advised them to imbibe the teachings of Islam.
