Borno NLC seeks benefits for victims of insurgency

The Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress Borno state chapter Comrade Bulama Abiso has appealed to the state government to compensate the families of over eight hundred workers killed during the insurgency.

The Chairman made the appeal at an event to mark this year’s workers day in Maiduguri.

Comrade Abiso said out of the eight hundred workers affected, five hundred are primary school teachers, about two hundred local government staff and one hundred health workers.

The Chairman also called on Borno state government to hasten the implementation of thirty thousand minimum wages to local government staff.

Comrade Bulama Abiso stressed the need for the state government to provide more job opportunities for the youths as a panacea for not only solving societal ills but also fill the gap created by retirees leaving the civil service.

Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima represented by the Head of Service Alhaji Mohammed Hassan acknowledged the demands of workers and reiterate that efforts are being made to ensure entitlements of workers are fully paid within available resources.

Governor Shettima called on the organised labour to be proactive and dedicated to their duties for the development of the state.
