Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, CP Mohammed DanMallam has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force in respecting and enforcing fundamental human rights of individuals as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.
CP DanMallam who gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to him by the State Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Sani Momodu said the protection of human rights was one of the cardinal points of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu.
CP DanMallam explained that the Police in Edo State under his leadership was committed to ensuring not just the protection of lives and property but the protection and enforcement of fundamental human rights.
CP DanMallam assured the Coordinator that the Police in the State will continue to open her doors to the Commission for further collaborations, sharing of information and ensuring that police in the state comply with the Human Rights Acts.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Sani Momodu said he was in the Command to seek collaboration with the Police in ensuring the protection and enforcement of human rights in the Edo State.
Mr. Momodu explained that since the dual mandate of the commission was the promotion and protection of the rights of citizens it was imperative the Commission further her collaboration with the Police in the State.
Mr. Momodu said part of the Commission’s strategy to achieving her mandate was to provide avenues for public enlightenment, research and dialogue in order to raise awareness on human rights issues.
The visit climaxed with presentation of the Commission’s souvenirs to CP DanMallam by Mr. Momodu.
