The Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC says it’s funding of Telecommunication based research in higher institution is meant to boost the local ICT based manufacturer industry.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof Garba Danbatta stated this while receiving the Management of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, the Director Research and Development, Mr Ephraim Nwakenanya said several telecom research funding had produced outstanding prototypes which are being developed into fully established products.
Prof Danbatta said the Commission is poised to support innovative ideas that would reposition the nation’s economy.
Responding the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Abdullah Adamu represented by the University Director of Academic Planning, Professor Nebath Tanglang said NOUN, as the largest University in West Africa has over half a million students and hopes to provide affordable higher education to Nigerians and non-Nigerians as well.
Professor Adamu said the NOUN services which is ICT based require the support of the NCC in it’s research projects to further boost the nation’s economy.
