Journalists and police officials are meeting in Abuja to review their operations during the general elections and to chart a way forward for future tasks.

Those expected to lead discussions at the forum include the director of the international institute of journalism, the executive secretary of the Nigeria press council, a veteran journalist Mr Bayo Atoyebi amongst others.
In his opening remarks, Professor Kwame Karikari of the Accra based media foundation for West Africa said there was a need to work closely with the police to always ensure the safety of journalist during elections and to promote press freedom.
A framework for the establishment of a committee on the safety of journalists is expected to be developed at the talks.
